    The CPU 1518-4 PN/DP ODK is the fastest S7-1500 CPU with a very large program and data memory for demanding tasks in applications that also contain distributed automation structures alongside central I/O. The CPU 1518-4 PN/DP ODK can be used, for example, as a central controller in production lines or as a machine controller with high processing speed demands.

    The CPU 1518-4 PN/DP ODK allows the execution of functions created with the high-level language C/C++. These functions can be created with the SIMATIC ODK (Open Development Kit) 1500S or with the Target 1500STM for Simulink®. This means the following ODK applications can be implemented on the CPU:

    • Integration of existing open-loop and closed-loop control code that was implemented in C/C++ and is to be reused
    • Integration of control code from model-based development environments, e.g. with the SIMATIC Target 1500STM for Simulink®
    • Platform-independent programming of control code in C/C++

    The CPU 1518-4 PN/DP ODK can be used as a PROFINET IO controller or as distributed intelligence (PROFINET I-Device). The integrated PROFINET IO IRT interface is designed as a 2-port switch, enabling a linear topology to be set up in the system.
    Two additional integrated PROFINET interfaces with separate IP address can be used, for example, for network separation. Additional PROFINET IO RT devices can be connected via the PROFINET interface X2 or fast communication can be established in the form of an I-Device. The X3 interface can be used with a transmission rate of 1 Gbit/s, e.g. for communication with the backbone.
    Distributed I/O can be connected via PROFIBUS via the integrated PROFIBUS interface.

    In addition, the CPU offers comprehensive control functionalities as well as the ability to connect drives via standardized PLC-open blocks.
