    The managed Industrial Ethernet switches of the SCALANCE XC-200 product line are optimized for setting up Industrial Ethernet networks with data transfer rates of 10/100 Mbps in a line, star or ring topology. Furthermore, high-performance optical structures with up to 1 000 Mbps can be set up with the SCALANCE XC206-2SFP.

    SCALANCE XC-200 Industrial Ethernet switches enable cost-effective configuration of Industrial Ethernet line, star or ring topologies with switching functionality for networks in which high availability or remote diagnostic capabilities are required.     SCALANCE XC-200 Industrial Ethernet switches with a rugged enclosure are optimized for mounting on standard DIN rails and SIMATIC S7-1500 mounting rails Direct wall mounting in various positions and mounting on a SIMATIC S7-300 mounting rail are also possible. Due to the SIMATIC S7-1500 housing dimensions, the devices are optimally suited for integration into an automation solution with SIMATIC S7-1500 components.

    The network access points with IP20 degree of protection feature:

    • A 4-pin terminal block (push-in) for connecting the redundant supply voltage (2 x 24 DC)
    • The following status information is displayed by LEDs on site:
      • Port status
      • Port mode (10/100/1 000 Mbps, full/half-duplex)
      • Status of the two power supplies
      • Signaling contact status
      • Signal mask (setpoint status)

    • Redundant interfacing to company networks
      The XC-200 switches support the standardized redundancy procedures Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) and Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP). This enables a subnetwork to be connected redundantly to a higher level corporate network with reduced requirements for the reconfiguration time (in the order of seconds)
    • Support of virtual LANs (VLANs)
      For structuring Industrial Ethernet networks with a fast growing number of users, a physically existing network can be divided into several logical networks
    • Load limiting with use of multicast protocols (e.g. querier, video)
      By learning the multicast sources and targets (IGMP snooping), XC-200 switches can also filter multicast data traffic and therefore limit the load in the network. Multicast and broadcast traffic can be limited.

    Network topology and network configuration

    The SCALANCE XC-200 Industrial Ethernet switches with IP20 degree of protection are usually installed in a control cabinet together with the stations to be connected. Electrical and optical versions can be installed together in star, line and ring topologies.

    The following network structures and combinations of structures can be implemented:

    • Fast Ethernet and Gigabit rings with fast media redundancy
    • In addition, the SCALANCE XC-200 switches support redundant connection of the ring structure to the corporate network with a rapid spanning tree
    • Star topology with XC-200 switches
      Each SCALANCE XC-200 switch represents a star point which can interconnect as many as 8/16/24 nodes or subnetworks.

    When configuring the network, the following boundary conditions must be observed:

    • Maximum cable length for twisted pair:
      • Max. 100 m with Industrial Ethernet FC cable and Industrial Ethernet FC plugs
      • Max. 10 m using patches with TP cord
    • Length of the optical cables:
      • Maximum line length between two modules for multimode fiber-optic conductors:
        – 5 000 m at 100 Mbps
        – 750 m at 1 Gbps
      • Maximum line length between two modules for single-mode FOCs:
        – 200 km at 100 Mbps
        – 120 km at 1 Gbps
    • IP address:
      The IP address can be assigned by means of the DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol). If there is no corresponding server in the network, the IP address can be assigned using the supplied software tool PST (Primary Setup Tool) or STEP 7.

    Commissioning and diagnostics

    PROFINET diagnostic alarms from SCALANCE XC-200 switches can be displayed with the appropriate SIMATIC engineering tools and processed in the controller with the enhanced diagnostic function. The engineering effort for the PLC and HMI have been drastically reduced due to the complete integration in the SIMATIC concept for system error messages.

    SCALANCE XC-200 Industrial Ethernet switches can also be integrated in a network management system such as SINEMA server using the standardized Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). If faults occur on the device, error messages (SNMP traps) can be sent to a network management system or as an e-mail to a specified network administrator.

    The integrated web server enables configuration and diagnostics settings using a standard browser (e.g. port configuration). Statistical information can also be read out via the web server (e.g. port utilization).

    The following information is displayed on site by LEDs:

    The Industrial Ethernet switches of the SCALANCE XC-200 line can also be monitored using the floating signaling contact.
